When embarking on a Investigation there are a number of points to remember:

*  Ensure that you have obtained permission from the land owner or owner of the property before visiting the investigation site.

* Before the investigation visit the site in the day, speak to the owner to get background information of the sightings and/or hauntings.

*  Ensure that you have all of your equipment E.G. Camera's, Video Camera's, EMF Meter, Thermometer  and extra batteries Etc.

*  If working as a team ensure that everyone is aware of their role within the team and of any extra duties they may be given E.G. Temperature readings at regular intervals, Notes through out the night, Etc.

*  Designate one individual from the team to be the spokesperson, Should there be any questions asked?   

*  Ensure everybody has familiarised themselves with the surroundings in case of fire or alarms go off and you need to get out fast. Or even if you can't brave it anymore!

*  Log things such as the start time, weather conditions, any other relevant information and the location of locked off camera's, vigils and trigger objects.

* Begin to set up any stationary equipment like cameras, motion detectors and trigger objects.  Make note of any areas that may produce false readings or false positive pictures.

*  Note anything unusual that happens with any of the equipment readings, especially temperature readings, visual sightings, strange sounds and feelings felt by the team members.

*  Ensure that all members of the group rotate area's under investigation .  Ensure that all of the areas of interest are covered.  This is so that each person stays both fresh and attentive. 

*  Be vigilant and write down everything that occurs.  At the end of the investigation it is useful to ensure that everyone meets up and makes notes together about the night.

* Analyze your footage and photo's make notes as you go, and then write up your report for the investigation.
